Also check out the explanation of what you can use the content type service for in the article overview of content types.
The starting point is that the website is bilingual. This means that every piece of content on ru.nl is offered in both Dutch and English and therefore every content type must also be translated. Read more about this in the input instruction Translations.
- Go to content > add content
- Click on 'Service
You always start editing the Dutch language version. Once you have completed and saved the required fields, you will be given the option to create a translation. Is the content to be offered in English only? Then change the language version to English under 'Language' before you start editing.
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Name* | Title of service. |
2. Summary* | Short description of up to 250 characters. Displayed in summaries and on map views. Click "Edit Summary" next to the "Description" to see the field. Read about a good summary. |
3. Description | Description of Service. |
4. Paragraphs | Sections allow you to add additional paragraphs, images, video, tables and documents to your description. |
The description and paragraphs make up the content of the service. |
Once you have entered all (required) fields on the content tab, you can add a regulation, manual and or application form belonging to the services, among other things. It is also possible to add a physical location (think student desk, or ICT service point).
- Go to 'additional information' tab
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Regulation | Service-related regulations. |
2. Location | Associated location, if it is physically accessible (counter). The address details of the linked item are displayed with the service. If you have not entered opening hours then the opening hours are taken from the linked building or room. |
3. Organizational Unit* |
Organizational unit offering or responsible for the service. Note: that this is not always the same as where the target audience can go with questions. See the 'Contact Information' tab for this. (Also not: the organizational unit that manages the content in the CMS) |
4. Manual | Related manuals. |
5. Link | Reference to external site(s) with more information about the service. |
6. Related content | Related content from Drupal. |
7. Download form | The related form, if this is a download. |
Metadata
On the Additional Information tab, you can also add metadata to your Service. Read more about this information in the article Metadata.
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Target audience* |
For whom this service is intended. |
2. Requesting | This was intended for linking the associated Drupal form, but we no longer use this field. Use the 'web form' section block to embed a form into the service. |
3. Topic |
The (sub)topic related to the service. Only select a topic if the service needs to appear in the 'Information and services' overview. In that case, also select 'employee' and/or 'student' as the target audience. More about sections. |
It happens that the service has different opening hours from the linked location (tab 'additional information': building, room). In that case, fill in this tab.
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Opening hours |
Add only if the service's opening hours are different from the location you entered on the 'Additional Information' tab. For example: the location is always open, but your service is only open on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. |
2. Exceptions to regular opening hours |
Add only if the exceptions to the regular opening hours of this service are different from those of the location you entered on the 'Additional Information' tab. For example: the location is open on Easter, but your service is not. |
3. Additional information |
Textual addition to (exceptions to) regular opening hours. For example, "Closed at Easter," or "Open extra long at Christmas. |
A special 'contact block' has been designed to display contact information with a Service. Go to the 'Contact Information' tab to enter the information.
Field | Description |
---|---|

By default, "Contact information" appears in the contact block. Optionally, you can change this title. |
2. Contact information | Comment on opportunities to contact for more information about the service. |
3. Email address | The e-mail address that someone can contact. If possible, use a general email address (functional inbox) rather than a personal email address. |
4. Telephone number | The phone number that someone can contact. If possible, use a 024 university number, rather than a cell phone number. |
5. Contact person | An employee that someone can contact. |
6. Contact department | An organizational unit that someone can contact. |

- Click save.
- The 'title' and 'summary' fields in the SEO tab are generated from the information entered on the content tab.
- Read what improvements you can do in the input instructions for SEO (tab).
