In Drupal's media database, you can upload different types of media. Please note that you also need to translate media files.
- Go to the Media tab to view or search the contents of the media bank.
- By default, content is displayed in a grid. Want to see more detailed information when searching media? Then choose Table view.
- Use the filter options to search for content:
- Published: filter by published or unpublished
- Name: filter by media item title
- Media type: filter on media type
- Language: filter by EN or NL
- Click the Filter button to perform the search.
Click + Add media or go to the Add media tab to upload a new media file.
- Go to Media > Add media
- Click on 'Audio
Field | Description |
---|---|
Audio file* |
Upload an audio file not exceeding 50MB of type mp3, wav or aac. Please give the audio file a proper file name before uploading. |
- Go to Media > Add media
- Click on 'Document
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Name* |
Document title. Choose a name that is short and concise and well describes the content of the document through keywords. |
2. Document* |
Upload a document of maximum 50B of type txt, rtf, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, pdf, odf, odg, odp, ods, odt, fodt, fods, fodp, fodg, key, numbers or pages. Give the document a good file name before uploading. |
3. Description |
Optionally add a description to be displayed below the file name. |
4. Keywords |
Add keywords that describe what the document is about so that other users can find the document based on these words. Separate keywords with commas. |
5. Organizational unit* |
Names the organizational unit responsible for this document. |
- Go to Media > Add media
- Click on 'Image
Field | Description |
---|---|
1. Image* |
Upload an image. Read more about format requirements. Make sure you have a clear, descriptive file name before uploading because you can't edit it after uploading. Read more about filename requirements.
|
2. Text alternative* | Write a good text alternative for the image. Read more about writing text alternatives. |
3. Caption | A caption provides information about what the photo shows, or where the photo is from. The caption is displayed on the website below the photo. |
4. Type of image* | Indicate which category the image belongs to. This is used to organize the media bank. |
5. Keywords | Add keywords that describe what the image is about so that other users can find the image based on these words. Separate keywords with commas. |
6.Copyright holder* | The name of the person who took the image. If this is someone who created the image from his/her employment at Radboud University (e.g. Dick van Aalst), put 'Radboud University' here. |
7. Reusability* | Indicate whether the image may be reused royalty-free in other places on the website, or if there are conditions attached. This is important because Radboud University may face fines if the image is used incorrectly. |
8. Organizational unit* | Indicate which organizational unit is responsible for the image. |
Format
- Images are at least 800px wide, but the bigger the better (unless this does not add value to the quality of the image online).
- Drupal optimizes all images for online use, so you don't have to crop or provide different sizes yourself.
- You can upload a maximum image of 10MB.
Applying focus
- Click on the picture. A cross will appear.
- Place the cross on the most important part of the picture. The cross ensures that that part of the photo remains visible when cropped (when an image is too large for the frame in which it is displayed and thus partially hidden). This is particularly important for photos with people.
- Click 'Preview view' to see how the applied focus is applied when displaying the image on banners, hero-image and on tiles on a page, among others.
- Go to Media > Add media
- Click on 'External video
Field | Description |
---|---|
Video URL* |
Insert the url of a video from YouTube or Vimeo. |
- Go to Media > Add media
- Click on 'Video
Field | Description |
---|---|
Video file* |
Upload a video file of up to 50MB of type mp4. Please give the file a good file name before uploading. |
- Go to content > media
- Search for the media item
- In the 'Use column', check where the item is all in use (click on the number). Determine if the item can be replaced in all those places.
- If no: upload a new media item and use a clearly distinctive title
- If yes: click edit.
- Then click on remove file and upload the new version. You have now replaced the media item, the new version will be shown in all places where it is in use.
All content in Drupal is stored bilingually: in Dutch and English. This also applies to media files and especially images that you want to be able to display on the English side as well. See the import instructions for translations.
So in principle you only have to upload your media file once, but you have to translate it afterwards if necessary. You should always translate the following information accompanying an image:
- Text alternative to an image;
- Caption.
If your media file is specific to a certain language (for example, when there is text in an image), you can upload an alternative file for the other language variant. You can do this by, in translation, deleting the file and uploading a new version.
