The starting point is that the website is bilingual. This means that every piece of content on ru.nl is offered in both Dutch and English, so every content type must also be translated. Read more about this in the input instruction Translations.

Tab: Content
  • Go to content > add content
  • Click on 'Manual

You always start editing the Dutch language version. Once you have completed and saved the required fields, you will be given the option to create a translation. Does it concern content that should only be offered in English? Before you start entering, change the language version to English under 'Language'.

1. Title* Title of the manual.
2. Summary* Short description of up to 250 characters. Displayed in summaries and on map views. Read about a good summary.
3. Explanatory note* Preliminary copy fill in summary. This field is made non-mandatory by technology.
4. Step-by-step plan

Include steps (if any) with explanations/instructions.

  • Step title: title of a step
  • Step description: explanation of a step
5. Sections Sections allow you to add additional paragraphs, documents, images, media and text, tables and video to your step.

2. Explanatory notes (outro) Do not complete. You may want to end the tutorial with an outro, but this is usually not necessary/not applicable.
3. Topic

The (sub)topic related to the manual. Only select a topic if the manual needs to appear in the 'Information and services' overview and the manual is not linked to a service. In that case, also select 'employee' and/or 'student' as the target audience. More about topics.

4. Download

If necessary, add a PDF with instructions (if the instructions are not included in the steps). Click Add Media to open the media library of files. Search for an already existing document in the media library or upload a file from your PC. When uploading:

  • Enter a descriptive title, this will be shown as a link on the page.
  • Indicate which organizational unit "owns" the file.
5. Link If necessary, include an (external) link to an online manual.

For example: relate manual email and calendar on iPhone/iPad to manual for email and calendar on android phone/tablet
Tab: SEO

The SEO tab appears on every content type. The tab is partially populated from other fields of the content type. Still, it is wise to see if you can improve the SEO information. 

  • Click save.
  • The 'title' and 'summary' fields in the SEO tab are generated from the information entered on the content tab. Read what improvements you can do in the input instructions for SEO (tab).
