Titles

  • Service, manual, regulation, basic page or project
Titles are as short as possible (2 - 3 words). For example:
    • Request parking subscription (service)
    • Install EduVPN (manual)
    • Our history (basic page)
    • 'The Understanding Coach' or 'User-focused online' (project)
  • News item, blog post and event
Titles are about 8 words and a maximum of 100 characters (including spaces). For example:
    • What the Song Contest says about integration Turkish migrants (news item)
    • Shinto, nature and climate change | Lecture by religion scholar Aike Rots (event)
  • Testimonial: titles follow the format 'first name' + 'last name' + 'about' + 'subject'. For example:
    • Laura van Niftrik on scientific integrity.

Image titles

A good title is short, powerful and a good description of what you see in the image. Also include a search term in the title so that the image can be found by Google. As a user, you see the title when you move your mouse over an image. Add the title text in Dutch and English (in the 'Translate' tab).

  • Logo
Always include the word 'logo' in the title, plus the name and any abbreviation of the organisation. For example:
    • logo-nederland-organisation-for-scientific-research-nwo.jpg.
  • Photo accompanying testimonial: always include the word 'testimonial' in the title, plus the first and last name of the person portrayed. For example:
    • testimonial-lasse-wig-son.jpg.

Numbers

For the notation of numbers, follow the advies van Onze Taal (in Dutch).

Telephone numbers

Always format telephone numbers like this:

  • Landline number: +31 24 361 23 45
  • Mobile number: +31 6 36 12 34 50

Tables

We use tables to display:

  • data, such as the numbers of students by faculty;
  • comparisons, such as the advantages of different software packages or studies.

A table should also be easy to view on mobile. This amounts to about 3 to max 4 columns.

If you link from an English text to a Dutch page, or vice versa, indicate this using (in Dutch) or (in English) after the link. For example:
