Content types

Content in Drupal is entered in content types.

"A content type is a bundle of fields that belong together that can be used to capture a specific type of information.

It also contains metadata, which tells something about what it is and what the content type is about. The content type can be fed by a source system."

Content types can be deployed individually or used to compose pages. This article explains (in alphabetical order) of the most common content types:

  • what it is - definition;
  • what it serves - customer goals;
  • what it looks like on the front end (display) - examples

Blog post

Definition: a personalized story.

Client purpose(s): to inform or persuade through thematic communication.

Event

Definition: announcement of an event, such as education, cultural event or promotion.

Client purpose(s): to inform about relevant upcoming events.

Homepage banner

Definition: prominent banner on the tabs on the homepage of ru.nl.
Client purpose(s): Means of informing a wide audience about an uimportant message or event. For example: academic ceremony, Bachelors or Masters open day, major research news.

Location overview

Manual

Definition: explanation of how to perform a particular task. Especially with Services, for example, "How to print. 

Customer goal(s): getting target groups to use services effectively.

Definition: a message about a current affairs event. 

Client purpose(s): to keep the target audience informed of what is going on at Radboud University.

Definition: research or organizational project such as Customer-focused online.  

Customer goal(s):

  • Research project: to inform about ongoing research.
  • Organizational project: provide an overview of ongoing projects within Radboud University, so people can easily see what they can join, take into account and/or what will affect their work.

Regulation

Definition: describes agreements about how something should proceed, such as terms of employment or claim regulations. Often legal in nature.

Client purpose(s): to inform about applicable agreements.

Space

Definition

Service

Definition: description of a service, facility or information.

Examples include:

  • request additional cleaning (service);
  • when can I use the laboratory (facility);
  • when am I entitled to an irregularity allowance (information).

The content type is a generic format for handling a customer question (what, why) and is always linked to an action:

  • arrange online immediately;
  • fill out the form and send it;
  • contact employee;
  • inform about a facility or service;
  • referring to external resources or services.

A service is always linked to contact information.

Pages of content type services are displayed in automatically compiled overviews of all services for a certain target group, categorized by headings. If the content is not (also) for employees or students, it may be better to choose a basic page.

Testimonial

Definition: experience or testimonial.

Client purpose(s): answers questions such as "what is it like to study or work at Radboud University? And 'what is it like to study abroad?' The customer identifies with the experience.

Training

Definition: courses, training and non-formal education (e.g. continuing education, post-graduate education, profit unit offerings), 

Client purpose(s): to inform the target audience about the offer of training, courses, training, master classes, webinars, workshops, etc.

Collect master

Definition:

Basic page

Definition: used exceptionally when content does not fit into another content type. Content type for relatively static content, an additional explanation or description, such as the history or mission of Radboud University. 

Client purpose(s): to inform.

Example: The name Radboud
